Setting Up Emulator Short Names

Summary

The following are the steps to set up the short name for each currently supported emulator.

Attachmate Extra! Personal Client

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Attachmate’s Extra! Personal Client version 6.3 and later.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for Extra! Personal Client are:
 
1.  Start your Extra!Personal Client session as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.  Click on Options from the menu bar then select Global Preferences from the list.

2.  Select the Advanced tab.

3.  Highlight one of the available Short Names, designated by a single letter on the left. (A Short Name is available if there is no session document listed to the right of it.)

4.  Use the Browse button to locate the file containing your session profile document, click OK to associate it with a Short Name.  Press OK.

5.  Save the changes made to the profile using the File/Save Session menu option

Attachmate’s InfoConnect

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Attachmate’s INFOConnect versions Ruby, Millennium and 2001 (with patch). The ’Emerald’ Version is not supported. 

The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for Attachmate’s INFOConnect are as follows:

1.  Start your INFOConnect session as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.  From the Accessory Manager menu, select Options, and then select Global Preferences from the list.

2.  Select the HLLAPI tab.

3.  Highlight one of the available Short Names, designated by a single letter on the left. (A Short Name is available if there is no session document listed to the right of it.)

4.  Use the Browse button to locate the file containing your session profile document, click OK to associate it with a Short Name. Press OK.

5.  Save the changes made to the profile using the File/Save menu option.

Aviva’s Aviva For Desktop

Foxtrot LE supports Aviva’s Aviva For Desktops version 9.10, (build AV0326R).  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for Aviva’s Aviva For Desktops are as follows:

1.  Start Aviva’s Aviva For Desktops to Host.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Select Properties from the Sessions menu.

3.  Click Automation tab.

4.  Uncheck "Choose first available short name".

5.  Type in Short Name.

6.  Click OK.

BOSaNova Client 32 or TCP/IP

Foxtrot Enterprise supports BOSaNOVA version 4.0 and later.  The steps to setup a Short HLLAPI Short Name for BOSaNOVA Client 32 or TCP/IP are as follows:


1.  Start a BOSaNOVA session as you normally do. If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Choose File / Run Configurator from the menu. Alternately, run the Configurator from the Start menu.

3.  Choose the Sessions page, and select the session document you want to use with Foxtrot.

4.  Click the Change button. You will see the Change Session window.

5.  Select Short HLLAPI Name.

6.  Select a letter from the lower part of this window (it doesn’t matter which letter is chosen).

7.  Click OK and then save the session again, in the File menu

Cail’s CTT Windows 32

Foxtrot Enterprise supports CAIL’s CTT Windows 32 version 4.9r and later.  The steps to setup a HLLAPI Short Name for CAIL’s CTT Windows 32 are as follows:

1.  Click Properties on the File menu.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Navigate to the Terminal tab.

3.  Set the HLLAPI ID to the desired Short Name (example: A)

4.  Click OK.

5.  Click Save on the File menu to save the session settings.

Distinct’s Intelli-Term

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Distinct’s IntelliTerm version 8.0 and later.  The steps to setup a HLLAPI Short Name for Distinct’s IntelliTerm are as follows:

1.  Start IntelliTerm as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Click Options from the menu bar and select API Settings.

3.  Check Update Screen After PS Update and Auto Sync for the HLLAPI Options.

4.  Then click Options/Save Profile to select the HLLAPI Short Name from the dropdown box.  Click Save to keep the changes made to the profile.

Ericom’s Power Term Pro

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Ericom’s PowerTerm Pro.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for Ericom’s PowerTerm Pro are as follows:


1.  Start a PowerTerm session as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Choose Terminal/ Setup from the menu.

3.  Open the General tab.

4.  Type in a one-letter name in the box labeled HLLAPI Names / Short.

5.  Click OK and save the session by selecting File / Save.

Esker’s TUN Plus 11.1

Foxtrot supports Esker’s TUN Plus. TUN automatically assigns a HLLAPI Short Name, however, you can review or change this setting by following these steps:

1.  Start a TUN session as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Choose New Session from the menu.

3.  Select the Session tab.

4.  Type in a one-letter name in the box labeled Unit Name.

5.  Click OK and save the session by selecting File/Save. This will create a new session document with the Short Name you’ve selected

FutureSoft’s DynaCom

Foxtrot Enterprise supports FutureSoft’s DynaComm version 8.0 and later.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for FutureSoft’s DynaComm are as follows:

1.  Start a DynaComm session as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Choose Session / Properties from the menu. The Session Properties dialog appears.

3.  In the Session Properties dialog, click the Emulations tab.

4.  Click the Advanced tab.

5.  In the HLLAPI group, check Enable HLLAPI, Convert Nulls to Spaces and Convert Nulls to Blanks.

6.  Select PS Short Name from the Combo Box.

7.  Click the Auto-Launch button.

8.  In the Session File list, enter the session file name and location next to an available Short Name listing.  Or, you can use the Browse button to navigate to the file location.

9.  Click OK.

Hummingbird Host Explorer for Win32

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Hummingbird’s HostExplorer for Win32 version 7.1.0 and later.  The steps to set up a Session Short Name for Hummingbird’s HostExplorer for Win32 are as follows:

1.  Start HostExplorer for Win32 as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Select the Options from the menu bar and select Edit Profile menu option. 

3.  Verify that the Session Short Name has a capital letter already selected, or select one, such as, ’A’.  

4.  Click OK. 

5.  Then select Options from the menu bar and select API

6.  Check Update Screen After PS Update and Auto Sync.

7.  Save the Session by selecting File/Save and click OK for the API Global Settings.

IBM’s Client Access

 Foxtrot Enterprise supports IBM Client/Access and Access Express for Windows 95/NT.  Client/Access automatically assigns a Short Name when it starts. To see the Short Name, here are the steps:

1.  Start your Client/Access session as you normally do. If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar.

2.  Select the Windows Setup command from Appearances menu. The Short Name will show among the items you can display on the window title.  Here you can also select to have the session’s Short Name displayed on the title bar of the Client Access session.

Jolly Giant’s QWS3270/5250 Plus 3.6

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Jolly Giants QWS3270 and QWS5250 emulators.  The steps to select a Short Name for QWS are as follows:

1.  Start your QWS session as you normally do.  If you already have  session running, make it active by selecting it from the Task Bar.

2.  Select Session from the Options menu.

3.  Select Host Settings from the bar at left of the dialog.

4.  In the HLLAPI Session ID box, select or enter a letter.

5.  Click OK.

6.  Save the changes made to the profile using the File/Save menu option.

NetManage’s Elite

 Foxtrot Enterprise supports NetManage’s (NetSoft) Elite version 3.1.0 and later.  The steps to set up a Short Name for NetManage’s Elite are as follows:

1.  Start your NetSoft Administrator program. If you already have a session running, you must close it before you can make any changes to the Session Properties. Highlight the icon of the session you want to configure. Click Object from the menu bar, or right-click the icon, then select Properties from the list and highlight the Session page.

2.  Select the Advanced tab. Under the heading HLLAPI Options check the box labeled Convert Null to Space.

NOTE:  To verify that you are modifying the correct session, open the Properties page as described above, while the session is running. You should receive a message stating that you won’t be able to modify the session while it is running. Close the Properties, close the session and open Properties again.

3.  Select a Short Name from the dropdown list, then type in an eight-character Long Name. Press OK to save the changes you’ve made.

4.  Double-click the icon for your session to start it.

NOTE: In Elite Version 3.12, the ’Convert Null to Space’ setting may not take effect, even though the NS Administrator indicates the checkbox is checked. There is a service patch available from NetManage at http://supportweb.netmanage.com/patches/nsm-31x.asp. This service patch also comes with detailed instructions for installing it.

NetManage’s Rumba

Foxtrot Enterprise supports NetManage’s (Wall Data) Rumba 5.1 or Rumba 2000 and later.  The steps to select a Short Name for NetManage’s Rumba are as follows:

1.  Start your Rumba session as you normally do.  If you already have a Rumba session running, make it active by selecting it from the task bar. 

2.  Click on Options from the menu bar, then select API at the bottom of the list.

3.  In the Short Name box, scroll down to the capital "A" (without quotes).   Press OK.

4.  Leave the DDE topic name as is.

5.  Select the Configuration tab. The checkbox labeled Convert null characters to spaces should be checked.

6.  Save the changes made to the profile using the File/Save menu option.

NOTE:  If you do not have an "API" item on your options menu, you may not have installed all the Rumba components necessary to connect Foxtrot to Rumba.  From your Rumba installation CD, choose the "System" option, and install the "API" (not "Legacy API") components.

SDI’s TN3270 Plus

Foxtrot Enterprise supports SDI’s TN3270Plus version 2.2 and later.  The steps to select a WinHLLAPI Short Name for SDI’s TN3270Plus are as follows:

1.  Start the TN3270 session as you normally do.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the Task Bar.

2.  Click on Setup from the menu bar and then click on Host from the list. 

3.  In the WinHLLAPI Short Name Session ID dropdown box, select ’A’ or any other capital letter in the dropdown box. 

4.  Leave all the other information on the Setup as you had it before and click OK.

Seagull Software BlueZone

Foxtrot Enterprise supports Seagull’s BlueZone version 3.0C1 and later.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for Seagull’s BlueZone are as follows:

1.  Start the BlueZone emulator as you normally do.   If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the Task Bar.

2.  Select Options from the menu bar and select API from the menu options.  

3.  In the High Level Language API (HLLAPI) frame, type in a Short Name Session Identifier of ’A’ or any other capital letter.

4.  Type in a Session Long Name and have it refer to the letter in Short Name Session Identifier.  For example, SessionA, SessionB, etc.  Then click OK. 

5. Save the changes that you have made to the API Properties by selecting File / Save from the menu bar.

VirtualSoft’s PCLink!32 

Foxtrot Enterprise supports VirtualSoft’s PCLink! version 1.25.0 and later. If you’re running Windows XP Professional, you will need PCLink!32 version 1.4.7 or later.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for VirtualSoft’s PCLink! are as follows:

1.  Select File / Properties from the PCLink menu.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the Task Bar.

2.  On the Terminal page, type any letter into the HLLAPI address box. (We recommend "A".)

3.  Click OK.   

4.  Choose File / Save Workspace from the menu. You may want to create a shortcut on your desktop to ensure that you open this workspace every time you want to use Foxtrot.

WRQ’s Reflection

Foxtrot Enterprise supports WRQ’s Reflection version 7.0 and later.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for WRQ’s Reflection are as follows:

1.  Start Reflection.  If you already have a session running, make it active by selecting it from the Task Bar.

2.  Select the Setup/Terminal menu option.

3.  In the HLLAPI Names box, type in ’A’ or any other capital letter in the Short box.

4.  Type any meaningful eight-character description in the Long box.

5.  Press OK to save the changes you’ve made.

6.  Go to the File/Save menu option to save your revised configuration.

Zephyr’s Passport 2002

MyFoxtrot LE supports Zephyr’s Passport 2002 version 2002-621.  The steps to set up a HLLAPI Short Name for Zephyr’s Passport 2002 are as follows:

1.  Start Passport PC to Host.  If you already a session running, make it active by selecting it from the Task Bar.

2.  Select the Communication tab.

3.  Select Setup  (Note: If ’Setup’ is grayed out, click Disconnect, this should enable the Setup option on the Communication menu to appear.)

4.  Click HLLAPI tab.

5.  Click Manually Specify.

6.  In the Short Name box, type in ’A’ or any other capital letter not currently in use.

7.  Type Session (Letter chosen).

8.  Press Connect

NOTE:  Verification of the Short Name will appear as the first item on the title bar between parentheses.
